How to Print Wall Art at Home

Most wall art looks great on standard 80 gsm copy paper — the paper most home and office printers already have in the tray. If you're printing something you want to keep for more than a year, step up to 100–120 gsm for a heavier feel that resists wrinkling and fading.

Always print at 100% scale and turn off "fit to page" or "scale to fit" in the printer dialog. If you don't, every tile will shrink by a few millimetres and the edges won't line up when you tape the pages together.

Print all pages, lay them out on the floor using the A1/B2 position labels printed in the margin, trim the white margins along the crop marks with a long metal ruler, and tape on the back — not the front. Masking tape or washi tape works on the back without show-through.

Halftone wall art reads best at roughly 1.5× to 2× the poster's width away from the wall. A 1.2 m × 1.8 m poster looks sharpest from about 2 metres; step closer and you see individual dots, step back and the image snaps into focus.

Wall Art Generator FAQ

What is a wall art generator?
A wall art generator turns a digital photo into a large-format printable poster by splitting the image across multiple printer-sized pages. Rasterbator's wall art generator also applies halftone effects — dot patterns that let you print at huge sizes on any home printer while keeping the art looking intentional rather than blown-up.
Can I use photos from my phone?
Yes. Any JPG or PNG works, including photos straight from an iPhone or Android camera. The wall art generator runs in your phone's browser too, though for very large posters a desktop is faster.
How large can I make my wall art?
Up to 20+ pages wide. A 6×8 grid on A4 produces a roughly 1.2 m × 2.4 m (4 ft × 8 ft) piece. Larger is technically possible — the tool supports virtually unlimited grids as long as your printer has paper.
Do I need special paper or a special printer?
No. Any home or office printer works, and standard 80 gsm copy paper is fine. Laser printers give the sharpest halftone dots; inkjets give warmer blacks. For art you want to keep for years, 100–120 gsm paper holds up better.
Is the wall art generator really free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, no page limits, no premium tier. The whole thing runs in your browser, so there's nothing to charge for.
How does this compare to buying prints from a wall art store?
Stores ship you a single large sheet and charge by size. The wall art generator costs nothing, arrives in seconds, and prints on paper you already own — trading a little assembly time for zero cost and instant delivery. Halftone effects also give a specific graphic-poster look that photo prints usually lack.
